It's wicker rocking chair time for Billy Packer.

Billy Packer has reportedly been told by CBS that his run on the sidelines of the Final Four is over after 27 years. It is amazing that it's taken this long for the meanest guy on TV (not counting Dick Cheney) to lose his gig.

The highlight of his illustrious career was of course two years ago when Packer went out of his way on Selection Sunday to badmouth inclusion of mid-major teams over extremely mediocre teams from major conferences. To the delight of every college basketball fan in the U.S., Packer was essentially forced to eat his words on national T.V. after George Mason made it all the way to the Final Four.

Good call Billy. On the money.

Now Billy will return to his residence where he will sit on the front porch sipping sarsaparilla and eating Tic Tac's while keeping an eye out for whippersnappers. You have been warned youth of America, Packer has the broom ready.

I'm guessing we'll see Billy again shortly after 60 Minutes' Andy Rooney hangs them up or passes on to the afterlife. Isn't Packer the obvious heir to the "Old Codger Complaining on National TV" throne?

Ohio State's own Clark Kellog will replace Billy Packer alongside Jim Nantz for the Final Four telecast on CBS.
