As previously suggested, taking the Notre Dame Athletic Director position was not enough of a draw to pull Steve Orsini away from Southern Methodist University. It is apparently enough to get Jack Swarbrick away from some law firm in Indianapolis called Baker & Daniels LLP.
As a side note, I think it was B & D LLP that called me a couple years ago after I broke my foot. They wanted to make sure there wasn't someone within 100 miles that they might sue over this incident. I explained to them that dropping a full bottle of Bombay Sapphire on my own appendage probably wasn't going to provide any opportunities for punitive damages.
Anyway, Mr. Swarbrick seems to be qualified for this position because he graduated from Notre Dame in 1976. Sweet!
From espn.com...
Swarbrick, a 1976 graduate of Notre Dame, never has been an athletic administrator at the collegiate level, but he was considered for athletic director positions at Indiana and Stanford, and last year's commissioner opening with the Big 12 Conference. In 2002, he was a finalist for the NCAA president's position that went to Myles Brand.
So let's see here, Notre Dame had a bunch of current collegiate AD's on their short list and settled for a guy that has been passed over numerous times over the last few years. That's the standard of excellence that we're used to in South Bend, IN.
I'm sure he'll do a bang-up job.
Mr. Swarbrick, you can look forward to moronic Notre Dame fans blaming you for the failures of the significantly over-valued football team for the rest of your life. I'm sure that's better then ambulance chasing though. Congratulations!
