College Football Economics: "Who's got snaps on the petro?"

I found it rather curious that this story about the price of gasoline as it relates to college football attendance showed up only in the SEC Conference section of the USA Today website.

Are gas prices only ascending rapidly in the southeast? Are SEC fans the only ones that travel great distances to see their team?

More importantly, why would the price of gas affect the traveling SEC fan anyway? Don't they move about in covered wagons and horseback, along with other such primitive forms of transport?

YEAH! Gross generalizations rule!
